Why The Right Packaging Is A Key Part Of Fulfilment

As an e-commerce firm, you need a reliable homeware fulfilment partner. But that is not just about the basic task of ensuring goods get to the right places promptly. Other details need careful attention.

Packaging is undoubtedly one of these. There are some key issues to be concerned with. Firstly, it needs to keep items safe and secure. Secondly, there is the choice of materials, especially if you have a major focus on offering goods that are eco-friendly and conducting your business accordingly.

Part of our service is to use whatever packaging you require, no matter what that is. By giving you control of this, you will never have to accept second best or compromise either on product protection or your principles.

Keeping Packages Protected

Ensuring products arrive fully intact is vital. Nobody wants to receive damaged goods and that will be even truer when the Christmas rush kicks in over the coming weeks, as getting a replacement at the last minute could be tricky and nobody wants to miss out on getting the present under the tree.

According to MacFarlane Packaging’s 2022 survey, “seven per cent of packages sent to UK homes arrived with damaged goods.” This represented improvement from 2016’s ten percent figure. The survey also found consumer perception shifted dramatically—those believing retailers used excessive packaging dropped from 41 percent to 14 percent.

Sustainable Material Use

This represents a green issue, coupled with findings that “27 per cent would not buy from a firm that did not use sustainable packaging.”

This concern carries multiple implications. If roughly one-quarter of consumers refuse purchases from companies using non-sustainable packaging, retailers risk losing both new and repeat customers. However, companies can address this by committing to environmentally responsible packaging solutions that align with customer values and corporate ethics.

Plastic Packaging Concerns

The use of plastic in packaging warrants serious consideration. Approximately “240,000 miles of it are produced in the UK every year” regarding bubble wrap. While recyclable, many people remain unaware of this option, and recycling infrastructure remains limited across local authorities, resulting in significant landfill accumulation.

Companies may prefer alternative protective materials—such as biodegradable shredded paper—for vulnerable items instead of plastic-based solutions.
