Why The Right Packaging Is A Key Part Of Fulfilment
As an e-commerce firm, you need a reliable homeware fulfilment partner. But that is not just about the basic task of ensuring goods get to the right places promptly. Other details need careful attention.
Packaging is undoubtedly one of these. There are some key issues to be concerned with. Firstly, it needs to keep items safe and secure. Secondly, there is the choice of materials, especially if you have a major focus on offering goods that are eco-friendly and conducting your business accordingly.
Part of our service is to use whatever packaging you require, no matter what that is. By giving you control of this, you will never have to accept second best or compromise either on product protection or your principles.
Keeping Packages Protected
Ensuring products arrive fully intact is vital. Nobody wants to receive damaged goods and that will be even truer when the Christmas rush kicks in over the coming weeks, as getting a replacement at the last minute could be tricky and nobody wants to miss out on getting the present under the tree.
According to the 2022 Unboxing Survey by packaging maker MacFarlane Packaging, seven per cent of packages sent to UK homes arrived with damaged goods. However, this was an improvement on the ten per cent witnessed in the 2016 survey.
Among other findings, the number of people who thought that retailers used too much packaging had fallen dramatically, from 41 per cent to 14 per cent, which suggests that the message about excess packaging and waste has got through.
Sustainable Material Use
Indeed, this may be seen as a green issue, along with the revelation that 27 per cent would not buy from a firm that did not use sustainable packaging.
The last of these may be a particular concern for multiple reasons. The most obvious is that if a quarter or more consumers will not buy goods unless the packaging used is sustainable, that could put them off becoming repeat customers or if they are aware beforehand of the kind of packaging your goods will come in, they may be put off buying in the first place.
However, this can be turned around by a commitment to sustainable packaging. In the first instance, you can ask us only to use eco-friendly packaging and we can do this, ensuring your green-minded customers are happy.
In some cases, clients may go further. Companies whose outlook and ethics are focused very heavily on being environmentally friendly can actively demonstrate this through the use of sustainable packaging for their goods.
Plastic Packaging Concerns
Among the issues to consider is the use of plastic in packaging, such as that in bubble wrap. Around 240,000 miles of it are produced in the UK every year and while it is possible to recycle it, this is not widely known and not every local authority has facilities to collect it. This means a lot of it will end up in landfill sites.
This is an example of the sort of case where you might prefer us not to use bubble wrap, but other, organic and biodegradable materials like shredded paper to protect vulnerable items.
Whatever packaging you need and your customers want, we will use it.
